birdteeth:

Hello everyone! I’m pleased and excited to (finally!) announce Dragonfly, a Minnesota-based, independent feature film.

On one side of the cameraDragonfly is a story of homecoming and healing for a Minnesota family divided by divorce and illness. On the other side, it’s a story about three women tackling their dream of filmmaking head on and the amazing team of people who came together to devote their time and talent to making that dream a reality.

As for me, I’ve been working with many extremely talented and inspiring people on this project as the lead animator and illustrator. Being behind the scenes on a feature film has been a dream come true for me and for so many others, all thanks to Dragonfly. This film is unique in so many ways and has such a wonderful cast and crew that it has become a family in and of itself. We want Dragonfly to be as important for you and the film industry as it is for us!

But we need your help!

We have launched the Kickstarter today and trust us, every little bit counts. Whether you can give a little or a lot, or even just your support by signal boosting and reblogging this or sharing the link with your friends, you are going to become an important part in making Dragonfly a reality! Not to mention, there are some pretty cool donation perks!

By making this movie, we can be part of pushing the film industry towards greater gender equity, increasing the number of professional women in film, and upping the female representation on and off the screen.

Thank you and I can’t wait to see you become a part of Dragonfly!

These, for me, are the two most depressing paintings in western history. They were painted by post-impressionist Henry de Toulouse-Lautrec, a man who, due to inbreeding, was born with a genetic disorder that prevented his legs from growing after they were broken. After being so thoroughly mocked for is appearance, he became an alcoholic, which is what eventually caused his institutionalization and death. His only known romantic relations were with prostitutes.

And then he paints something like this which is so beautiful and tender and sentimental. It seems like the couple in bed really loves each other—cares about each other. Wakes up happy to look at each other. And I see that love and passion and I wonder how lonely he must have been. I wonder how he could paint something like this without it breaking his heart.

Maybe they say artists should create what they know, not because its unbelievable when they extend themselves beyond their experiences, but because when they pull it off with such elegance, it’s so damn unbearable to look at. I hate thinking of Lautrec, wondering about the lovers he created and knowing it was beyond his experience. Creating something that he knows is beautiful and knows he’ll never really understand.
