Character design for Pocahontas (1995) by Glen Keane.
Glen Keane on the character development and animation of Pocahontas:
The movie required acting that was so delicate. It required artists to draw better than we’ve ever drawn. I used to think that animation was about moving stuff. In order to make it really great, you bounce it, squash it, stretch it, make the eyes go big. But, as time went on, I started loving animating a character who had a kind of burning passion in her heart. Suddenly, animation became for me not so much about moving stuff as it was about moving the audience.

A couple quick portrait sketches in a new sketchbook my buddy gave me. It’s recycled from an old hardback novel with some of the original pages inside.. pretty neat.
I’ve also been working on a super intricate piece over the winter break; it’s the longest I’ve ever spent on one image. I’m stoked to show you guys the finished thing.
